Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

NYS Advocacy Day - Virtual

Asks on Advocacy Day

We urge the New York Assembly to pass S.13/A.2666, the Scott J. Beigel Unfinished Receiver Act and S.14/A.613, the Jose Webster Untraceable Firearms Act. These bills will help save lives by prohibiting undetectable, untraceable ghost guns, which present a serious threat to public safety in New York. By building Do-It-Yourself (DIY) firearms from parts and kits widely available online—and without a background check—people with dangerous histories, who cannot legally purchase firearms, can access untraceable guns.

We urge the NY Senate to pass PLCAA Bill S1048/A6762. This bill will allow victims to gun violence and impacted communities to hold the gun industry accountable for irresponsible practices that have creataed dangerous conditions in parts of New York. Since 2005, a federal law called the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act ("PLCAA") has shielded bad actor gun manufacturers and dealers from most lawsuits, creating a culture of impunity with the industry. However, this bill relies on an exception to PLCAA to lawsuits to go forward against gun manufacturers and dealers who put our communities in danger.
